Why heat a bathroom floor with Ribbon

A cold bathroom floor is the first thing your feet hit on a winter morning. The EkoBuild Ribbon sits directly under your finished floor with no screed and no messy build-up, so it suits a refit or a brand-new bathroom. It is 1.8mm thin, which keeps your floor height almost the same and means doors and thresholds still work.

Because the Ribbon has 300% more heating elements than a standard cable system, it spreads heat evenly with no cold stripes, and it can run as the main heat in the room so you can lose the radiator and free up wall space. The WiFi thermostat schedules the floor to be warm before you wake up and only draws power for about a quarter of each hour once the room is up to temperature.

Does electric underfloor heating work under bathroom tiles?

Yes. The EkoBuild Ribbon goes directly under tile, vinyl, LVT and stone with no screed. It is 1.8mm thin so it adds almost no height to your floor.

Do I need an electrician to fit a bathroom kit?

You can roll out and tape down the Ribbon yourself. Only the final connection of the thermostat to your mains needs a qualified electrician, as bathrooms are a special location under the wiring regulations.

How long does the kit take to warm up?

The Ribbon warms up in about 3 minutes, and around 5 minutes through a tiled finish. The WiFi thermostat lets you schedule it so the floor is warm before you wake up.
